ANNOUNCEMENTS

I completed the Pan Ohio Hope Ride on Sunday, August 1. It was an awesome ride for a great cause. Below is a brief summary of our 328-mile, day ride. The website (www.panohiohoperide.org) is still open for donations until the end of August 2010.

Day 1: We left Case Western University at 7:00 am with a police escort that took all 360 riders through the both Cleveland and Lakewood to Rocky Creek Metro Park. After 40 miles, we stopped at the Coppertop golf club for lunch. Then, it was on to Wooster through rolling hills for a total of 78 miles.

Day 2: We left Wooster College at 6:30 am and made our way to Fredericksburg to pick up the Holmes county bike trail. At 30 miles out we hit "the hill," a 0.6 mile climb up CR6 and then continued on through rolling hills until we reached the lunch stop in Danville at 47 miles. After lunch, we picked up the Kokosing Gap bike trail to Mt. Vernon. We then made our way over roads and highways to the Westerville bike trail and finally arrived at Otterbein University in Westerville after 100 miles, a century ride.

Day 3: We left Otterbein in the morning with our first rest stop at DNV in Dublin, where our Team DNV took time to meet and greet family and friends. Next, we proceeded to the Dutch Kitchen near Plain City for an early lunch. Then, it was on to Wittenberg College in Springfield for a total of only 63 miles. We got to ride through some rain but arrived in the early afternoon, giving us plenty of time to relax and party a little. That evening we had a awards banquet.

Day 4: We rode through Springfield to the Little Miami bike trail and followed it for 59 miles to Loveland before getting back on the roads to make our way into Cincinnati. The Morrow lunch stop was at 50 miles. At about 70 miles out, we encountered a surprise hill that was a challenge. My front shifter went out at this point, so I had to ride the rest of the way with only low gears. Luckily, I did not need the road gears in the Cincinnati suburbs. Shimano replaced it under warranty when I got back home. We stopped at Xavier University O'Connell Center (80 miles) to gather for the last 2 miles to the Cincinnati Hope Lodge. We rode in the 2:30 pm group; there also was a 3:30 pm group.

Knowing that it was for a great cause helped me keep pedaling to the end.
