My Education and Work Experience

B.S. in General Engineering, B.S. in Liberal Arts & Sciences, and M.S. in Theoretical & Applied Mechanics, University of Illinois; Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, The Ohio State University. Carl is a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and Alaska.

I worked 23 years at Battelle in Columbus, Ohio, before joining Det Norske Veritas (USA), Inc. where I have worked since 1990. I have lead engineering and research projects in the areas of materials behavior. The topics that I have investigated include fatigue, creep, fracture, and corrosion. My current work includes failure analysis, fitness-for-service and remaining life assessment of engineering components. I am also active in developing special-purpose engineering software, such as pcTUBE(TM) and CorLAS(TM).

My Related Personal Data

My wife, Donna Jaske, writes and teaches English as a second language. We have two daughters, Kat and Karen. Kat's novels - For Honor: An Adventure of What Might Have Been, Gambit: For Love of a Queen, and Righting Time, and Out of Phase: A Time Traveler's Chronicle have gotten rave reviews. Karen is returning to school to study nursing; she completed her first quarter at The Ohio State University in the Fall of 2009. In addition to teaching English as a Second Language, Donna as edits and promotes Kat's novels. Carl's hobbies include hiking, biking, running, and computers.

In May 2009, I had my first around the world business trip: Columbus to Bontang, Indonesia via New York, Frankfurt and Singapore and returning via Tokyo and Chicago. We also spent three weeks of the 2009 summer in Europe visiting Munich, Salzburg, Vienna and Prague. In December, I completed my first visit to Alaska. For the winter of 2010, we plan to spend time in Henderson, Nevada (Las Vegas area) to escape some of the Ohio cold weather.

School Story:

The fireworks that exploded in the school plumbing comes to mind, as well as some highly noxious material that was left in a water fountain.

From vocabulary studies, I recall "lionized" as being those people from the University of Illinois.
