Bloomington High School
Class Of 1961

07/03/2019:  On July 4, 2019 we celebrate the unanimous signing of the United States Declaration of Independence by the original 13 States which occurred 243 years ago.  Some 87 years later at the Battle of Gettysburg, which ended on July 3, 1863, the Armies loyal to the Union finally began to turn the tide of our own Civil War in favor of the preservation of these United States and its Constitution.  Since that time, and over the course of our great history, we have been called upon to defend our liberties, our Constitution, and our way of life from many foreign enemies who would like to destroy this great country.  We have endured these many years because we value our freedom above all else.  We the people of the United States of America continue to be the last best hope of free people everywhere, and our charge is to continue to show all the world that we will do what is necessary to maintain our liberty no matter the cost.  Let us all give thanks on this Independence Day by remembering that our Founding Fathers gave us a constitution, which allows all of us to be free, with equal access to pursue our dreams no matter what they may be.  Let us also thank our God, who has blessed our great country for these 243 years.

10/06/2016: Pictures of the 55th Class Reunion may be viewed by clicking on "55th Reunion 10/1/2016" in the gold column on the left of this Home Page screen.

The 55th reunion could not have happened without the excellent hard working help of the following classmates:  Jack Secord and Lyn Dossett Secord, Jeff Carnahan, (who graciously took on extra duties, especially when another classmate had a family emergency), Sharon Brown Leach, Lynn Keeran Fox, and Roy Willan.  Of course, Gene Lorch, Melody Robbins Lorch, and Donna Marquardt Dearth are the bedrock of BHS '61 by keeping the website updated on an ongoing basis.

6/08/2012:  In the 5/31/2012 Pantagraph, Bloomington High School was reported as ranking in the top 10% of high schools surveyed nationwide this year by U.S. News and World Report magazine and the American Institutes for Research.  BHS ranked 68th in the state among 672 high schools and 1,880th out of 22,000 high schools evaluated in 49 states and the Dist. of Columbia (Nebraska did not report enough data to be included in the survey).  The schools were evaluated in terms of college readiness, success in advanced-placement classes and other factors.
