Richard Stephen Modine

Richard Stephen Modine, 71, of Normal, passed away at 3:38 am Wednesday (August 27, 2014) at his residence with his family by his side.

His memorial service will be at 11 am, Tuesday at Eastview Christian Church, Normal, with a luncheon to follow and all are invited.  The Rev. Jim Probst will officiate.  Inurnment will be at a later date at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington.  Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11am Tuesday at the church.  The family suggests memorials be made to the Advocate BroMenn Hospice Program or Community Cancer Center, Normal.  Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.

Rick was born June 5, 1943, in Bloomington, the son of Carl E. "Swede" and Mary E McGuire Modine.  He married Helen "Bunny" Foreman on June 15, 1963, in Sacramento, California.  She survives.

Also surviving two children, Steve (Sally) Modine, Hudson, and Kris (Bill) Stanley, Normal; six grandchildren, Alex Modine and Nicholas Modine, both of Hudson; Justin Leathers, Bloomington, Jeremy (Samantha) Leathers, Maroa, Wesley (Kary) Modine and Richard Schroader, both of Bloomington; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, James (Janice) Modine, Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rick was a brick mason in southern California in the early 1960's and laid the bricks for the first Taco Bell.  He also worked for many years at UPS as a driver and manager.  He and his brothr later formed Modine, Inc., building homes and managing rental property in the Bloomington-Normal area.

Rick and Bunny were married for 51 hears, having grown up as childhood friends on West Washington Street, Bloomington.  After his retirement, they both enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home and spending winters in Florida and Arizona.  Rick enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rick fought a long and valiant battle with cancer but never lost his sense of humor.  His love and generosity will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Patsy Whitecotton (Barggren)

I'm so sad to learn of the passing of my classmate Richard Modine, from his obit. he lived a full life and leaves many wonderful memories for his loved ones.  My prayers will be with him and thoses he leaves behind during this difficult time of grief.  In deepest sympathy, Patsy Whitecotton
