The funeral of Joseph Walter Nickum, 49, of 1313 Beverly Lane, Bloomington, a shipping department employee and union officer, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington.

The Rev Francis Wendling will officiate.  Entombment will be in East Lawn Mausoleum, Bloomington.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the memorial home where a prayer service will be at 7:30 tonight.

Mr Nickum died at 4:30 a.m. Monday (Nov 2, 1992) at St Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

He was born Sept 3, 1943, in Springfield, a son of Earl W and Mossie Trower Nickum.  Her married Mary Marceline McCauley April 8, 1967, in Bloomington.  She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Scott and Greg, both at home; one daughter, Paulette Michele Svenson, 328 Avenue F, Hilltop Mobile Homes, Bloomington; two brothers, Earl Jr, 103 Tanner St, and John, 408 Grant Road, both of Bloomington; and one grandaughter.

His parents and one brother preceded him in death.

Mr Nickum, a 1961 graduate of Bloomington High School, had been employed in the shipping department of Nestle-Beich, Bloomington, for the last six years.  Previously, he had been employed for 16 years by Modine Manufacturing Co, Bloomington.

He was a member of Machinist Lodge 1000 and served for six years as vice president of the shop committee.  He was Nestle-Beich Teamster Union representative for six years.

Mr Nickum also was a coach for the Twin City Tigers, Youth League football team.
